Vital Statistics:

Name: Aiko Mai Kazuki || Sometimes, close friends will call her Ai. Her father's pet name for her was "kitten" as her most frequent shift is often something of the feline species. Many of her fans (what small number there may be in the world) have taken to calling her Tigress after an incident a few years into her music career (an incident that is still very fresh in her mind).

Occupation: She is a signed vocal artist who writes her own music and lyrics. While she may not be very well known, she does have a few albums on the circuit, and even catches one of her songs on the radio every once in a while. Even though this is her official profession, most of the money off of which she lives came from what her father left to her in his will.

Age: 19

Gender: Ai is very much a female

Species: Shapeshifter. A creature who possesses the ability to change their physical form into that of another animal, usually that animal is a bit larger than the actual creature as you would see it in the wild. While exactly how many forms varies between shifters, Aiko herself possesses an expansive array of alternate forms ranging from a giant tigress to a not so giant mouse. Many of her animalistic traits have begun to sort of bleed into her human form; her sight, hearing, sense of smell have become more acute. Though these senses are nowhere near as specialized as when she actually takes an animal form, there's no doubt that she notices - or has the ability to notice - more than the average human. Throughout years of practice shifters can "teach" themselves to partially shift (i.e. growing only wings, a tail, ears, etc.).

Class: Listed

Height: 5'4"

Weight: A whopping 125 lb.

Appearance: The first thing most people notice about Ai is her hair; a long, flowing mane of a blonde so pale it almost looks white. Usually left free to hang about her face, framing her American features - softened by her mother's Asian decent - with feather light locks of white-gold. Passing down her face, she bears an unwrinkled forehead, her skin a fair complexion of porcelain-mocha with an adorable brush of the palest rose across her cheeks when she's being shy or feels nervous; no freckles or scars are present to mar her visage. Her large, almond shaped eyes are a striking shade of crystalline blue; deep azure pools that seems to swim with a dark innocence lost, and an old hurt that seems to well up behind her shy gaze. Many have commented on how expressive her eyes are, and it is certainly true. Even when she does her best to hide some unwanted emotion from her face, it can often be found lingering in the cool waters of those searching, sapphire eyes. A sharp nose, that gives just the slightest fraction of an upward turn at the tip to give her an almost pixie-like quality, leads downward to her mouth. A pink bud of smooth lips that seem to always curl upward at the corners into a sort of sultry smile, even when in rest. To most men, this is the quality that drives them crazy; the subtle "come here baby" pucker that goes completely unnoticed by the young musician unless it is otherwise brought to her attention. This trait is certainly one received from her mother.

In terms of maternal decent, Aiko also inherited her slender feature from her mother. At first glance her body appears slight and perhaps holds a sort of fragile quality, but amidst the flattering curves of her obviously feminine figure is the delicate definition of some pretty sturdy muscles to give that slight frame some stability. Even so, when Ai is lost in thought, or feels uncomfortable or nervous, she has a tendency to "shrink" in upon herself. Now that isn't to say that she actually becomes smaller, she simply ducks her head a bit, wraps her arms around herself, and wishes she could disappear completely. It's when she does this that she looks to be at her most vulnerable, and she takes on an innocent, almost childish sort of helplessness that usually brings all sorts of people sprinting to her rescue.

Aiko's father left her a different sort of physical lineage, a sharper more defined appearance that her mother's buffed features lacked. Long, toned legs, and the long, slender hands of a pianist are her father's legacy in his child aside from her exotic eyes and hair color. Being in the spotlight for much of her life, these traits have given her a definite level of added appeal, but in her childhood those long legs had often made her seem more awkward and gangly than lithe and beautiful. Still today, when she isn't concentrating on her own movements, some of that awkward clumsiness comes into play and one might see her sprawled across the ground after one of her little tumbles.

Being in the music industry has opened many doors in the name of fashion and so Ai tries to remain up to date with the clothes she wears while keeping a bit of her own style to give her a sort of visual signature. While wandering the streets she is generally seen in mature, sophisticated style that can be mistaken for none other than designer brands. Usually she'll wear dark jeans that hug the curves of her hips, thighs, and calves to accentuate her feminine curves, faded a bit on top of her thighs in design. For shoes she is usually seen in variations of riding boots, some with a bit of added heel, some without; it simply depends on what her preference is for that day. As for shirts her tastes vary. Though they are almost always loose and of airy material, it's also not strange to see her in a simple T-shirt that looks a bit too large to have been meant for her. A common staple of her wardrobe is a single silver ring which she wears on the fourth finger of her right hand. This bit of jewelry is nothing special in appearance, however, with its history of her mother it rarely leaves her finger and if it must it is placed on a thin chain so that she may wear it about her neck, the actual ring itself hanging between her breasts and generally hidden by whatever shirt she's wearing. Constantly on her person is her iPhone, of course always the newest model and filled with a wide assortment of music. Working as her shield against the harsh din of the world around her is a pair of noise canceling headphones that are almost always either on her head or around her neck.

In a complete transverse relation to this relatively simple clothing style, when on stage Aiko often is dressed up in skimpy uniforms meant to reveal as much as they hide. In contrast to her normally simple makeup, the beauticians meant to get her stage ready seem to get a little carried away with their work and when she goes on stage she often feels as if the layers and layers of product on her face could fall off as a single entity and sing a duet with her. Now this isn't to say she doesn't look good when she's performing, because in truth those in charge of her costumes know exactly how to work that delicate form to make it look damn sexy and those in charge of her makeup are no less competent. But given the choice, Ai would go on stage in simpler outfits and ones she could move freely in without feeling as if she were going to reveal a bit too much of her youthful body.

Personality: Aiko has a wide variety of emotions, and rightly so because she is just as human as the next person. However, most of these emotions are merely masks, recreations of a former person. In simple english, she's a fake.

In front of the spotlight she is the lively and innocently bubbly Aiko Kazuki, the Tigress. She acts childish and vivacious, full of energy and excitement. She's outgoing and adores every single one of her fans.

On the streets, off the stage, she is a shy and quiet creature, a person who generally keeps to herself until someone else takes the initiative to approach her first. Of course if someone were to talk to her Ai wouldn't be quick to push them away and would carry on almost any conversation they wanted until they were satisfied with whatever amount of her personal attention they had received, but always lingering would be a ghostly sense of loss and longing. And almost hunting quality to her aura as if her very soul were reaching out to find something or someone, a thing very important that had long been lost to her...

When the walls come down however, her behavior does an almost complete 180. Gone is the lively and gentle creature who sings love songs and ballads of soldiers returning from war. Gone is the childish innocence and the easy smiles and shy rosy blushes. Present in their stead is a darker muse that hangs upon her weary frame, a drooping to her shoulders. When she is alone, she is vulnerable and broken, every ounce of her pain and defeat showing in the shattered posture of this young girl.

So go on, approach her, make "friends" with her and be fooled by her laugh, thinking her happiness is honest. And she'll go on shouldering her burdens alone, helping others before herself, and pretending as if that ever present ache in her chest is just her imagination.

Sexuality: Aiko is certainly all about the boys when it comes to her sexual attractions. While she isn't the type to heavily flirt - though hey, sometimes ya gotta let loose right? - she definitely loves her some tall-dark-and-handsome and like every girl her age dreams about the prince charming who was meant to come and whisk her away to some happily-ever-after. That is, if she doesn't turn into a stammering, weak kneed school girl first.

Preferences: Ai is a sucker for the typical "bad boys". Something about the way they simply stand around and brood makes her feel...well, not so alone. As if she's found a kindred spirit. Perhaps it's vain of her, but if she's going to openly date a man they need to be aesthetically pleasing, and heaven forbid they be even a millimeter shorter than her. In fact, the taller the better! Then again, with her shortness it usually isn't very difficult to find a man who fits that category. Muscles are a definite turn on for this young musician, and a chiseled physic is sure to catch her eye. If she could have her pick of a perfect man, he would have her taste for music and the fantasized romantic flair. That is to say, candle lit dinners, spur of the moment vacations to far away lands. But more than anything, Aiko wants someone who she can feel safe with. Someone she can lean on, someone she doesn't have to pretend around. Someone who will protect her from the harshness of the world she fell into and tell her that everything really will be okay.

Likes:
  • Music of any sort. Especially piano; something about the flowing sorrow they can spin in their sound particularly draws her ear and holds her attention like nothing else.
  • Playing music. Well of course she would like to play music if she made a career out of it. Aiko can play guitar, violin, piano, and of course she can sing and such a lovely voice she has too. Even if it sounds almost sad even when she's singing a love song...
  • Writing. While she is only average when it comes to spinning tales of fantasy or intrigue, poetry and song writing is her specialty. Having to write her own lyrics has given her a well rounded level of experience in this, and even someone as broken and depressed as little Aiko can write a love song to make even the most bitter person sigh.
  • Being outdoors. With so much of her being invested in animal nature it isn't too far fetched that she would enjoy a little fresh air. While she prefers the city life simply because of its convenience and easy life style, a little weekend getaway to somewhere with wide open fields is certainly a regular occurrence for this light haired beauty.
  • Old romance movies. Okay, so everyone has their guilty pleasures, and watching the guy get the girl is definitely one of hers.
  • Cooking. Random right? Not really. With her father absent for such a large portion of her life, Aiko had to learn a few necessities and cooking was only one of them. Today she is more than capable of preparing tasteful dishes that simply beg one to eat them.
  • Reading. Even Ai needs her time to wind down, and how else better than to curl up on the couch with a good book?
  • The rain. Absolute downpours, water falling in sheets, clothes and hair drenched, soaked to the bone rainstorms. She lives for them and goes a little crazy when they finally happen... Crazy in a good way of course.
  • Any movie made by Disney. What can I say? Girl's gotta have her cartoons.

Dislikes:
  • Arguing. Simply because she sucks at it. When she gets irritated or angry she finds it hard to articulate her thoughts thus she generally ends up loosing arguments when she isn't clearly in the right or has someone else to back her up.
  • Fighting of any form. Okay so this is perhaps a reiteration of the previous bullet, but this is a more severe level. As in, friendships ruined, family torn apart sort of fighting. She can't stand it, after hearing her brother and her father fight for so many years and seeing that end...any sort of fight leaves her feeling shaken even if she was only a bystander who happened to catch a short bit.
  • Thunder storms. Before you ask, no. This isn't the same as a rain storm. Thunder is scary as hell and she has every right to hide from it no matter what you say.
  • Spiders. Because these freaky little buggers are just....ew.
  • Being crowded. Perhaps not the best thing to dislike when your singer, but it's true. Aiko hates being crowded and though she might not show it, when too many people get too close to her it makes her extremely uncomfortable.
  • Spicy food. She just doesn't like it. /shrug
  • Sleeping alone. This is probably a strange one, but it makes sense when you take her history into consideration. Ai is plagued by nightmares and everyone knows how horrible it is to wake up alone after the terrifying jolt of awaking after the horrors of one's darker dreams. Now this isn't to say that she sleeps with random people, but she does sleep with things like night lights or - and this the more frequent option - she leaves the t.v. on in the background.

Back story:

History:

.:|| Where there is love, there is life. ||:.

Aiko Kazuki was born to her parents on an uncharacteristically cold morning in March. After hours of hard, merciless labor, she was born a healthy baby girl with quite the pair of lungs on her. And her parents loved her unconditionally.

She wasn't alone in that house growing up, oh no, her elder brother was with her every step of the way. Already 4 by the time she was born, Alexander Grant - every bit the striking creature his father was - was the very definition of a doting brother. He was always at his baby sister's side, playing with her and teaching her everything there was to know in their small lives. In her infant eyes, he was everything. Teacher, brother, protector, play mate. He meant the world to her and back then they were both shrouded by the ignorance of youth. However, everyone has to grow up eventually, and these two were no exception.

.:|| Words are merciless. ||:.

"Mommy's not coming back, kitten... Not tonight.. Not ever..."

Ai was only 8 when her mother died, and really all she remembers of that evening was the shadows as red and blue lights (she lived in America at this time) played upon the entryway wall, and the way her brother held onto her so tightly that it almost hurt. Of course she had cried then, the reason her brother had held her so tightly was to comfort his sobbing sister, but whenever she looks back on that evening, she never remembered her own pain. Always it was Alexander's, the distraught look of total and complete loss when he lost the one person who had been meant to love him and shelter him unconditionally. The very woman who had borne him...torn away from his heart by the father he then grew to hate with every fiber of his being. Aiko on the other hand turned to her father for comfort when her brother became increasingly bitter and distant, slowly cutting himself off from his baby sister as if their love suddenly meant nothing. And so it was that a bond was broken just as one was struck.

She had never known her father very well before the accident, and to this day she isn't quite sure what happened to make that car spin off the road and how could she be? Her father had so skillfully hidden that dark part of his life from his children that only tragedy threatened to shatter the mask he had created for his family. A mask that was suddenly peeled away by Alexander's eyes, but only strengthened in the young girl's.

As he is to every young girl, Ethan Grant was Aiko's hero. She adored her father and loved him more than life itself, and of course he returned this affection. While his work kept him away for days on end, when the two were together it was obvious the level of favoritism distinguished between Ai and her brother, the ties between the two males only souring further.

.:|| Change is the law of life. ||:.

It had always been common knowledge amongst that broken family the special skill they all possessed, and so when Aiko completed her first shift it was met with joyous celebration in the Grant household. Her father took her out on the town that night, sparing no expense for his perfect daughter whose shift had earlier than her ever shadowed brother's; the young Ethan slipping farther and farther into the background.

It was on this night that Ai received her first glimpse of what her father really did for a living, at the tender age of 9. They were walking back to their car when the men approached them, leaving a restaurant late with promises of dress shopping spinning through the young shifter's head. The first thug to approach had come at them from the front, but the other two had circled about to fence them in from behind, and with a child on one arm and another abruptly pulled against his side - although Alexander's height now rivaled his father's at this point even though he was only 13 - Ethan was in no position to fight these brutes. So, the man first tried diplomacy, his cautionary words met with harsh guffaws of imbecilic laughter, noises that only helped to feed his anger as every protective instinct started to trigger within the greying man's body. His cubs were in danger, and these fools would pay for that. Slowly, Ethan handed his precious daughter off to his son and heir, instructing the elder child to run home quickly and not stop for anything. Scared and mistrustful of everything, Alexander and reverted to his need for family and had simply done as his father asked, deciding to protect his sister rather than defy his father.

That night the streets drowned in crimson liquid, and Aiko would never forget her father as she peeked over her brother's shoulder while he sprinted away with her tiny body tucked against his chest. His fur had glittered a spectral gold in the glow of the streetlights around them, his fangs and claws flashing a diamond white that was soon stained with ruby droplets that dance and glimmered in the air before shattering against the surfaces of the pavement and nearby surfaces. The screams of the thugs echoing into the night, and bouncing hauntingly in her mind for the remainder of her years. Hugging close to them the first question that had sparked the entire ordeal: "Boss wants the money you owe him, Gramps. Otherwise he promised a personal visit to your pups...." The following snicker sent chills down her spine, and Ai had hidden her face with a sob into her brother's shoulder. Her father's blood curdling roars chasing them home.

Aiko wasn't quite the same after that evening. She still adored her father and clung to his side as if he were the only person in the world, but the veil had been shattered and no loner could his masks his his true self. Her father was a killer, and even though he had destroyed those men to protect them, she couldn't help but wonder how the world would punish her beloved daddy. Alexander on the other hand was absolutely furious that his father had allowed his work to come so close to the young girl they both worshipped. He waited up all night until his father came home, covered in blood that wasn't his and looking a little worse for the wear. They had yelled and snarled at each other, their fight ranging from human to beast and back again, so much of their bitterness coming to play in that fight. Ai had watched them from around the corner, sobbing silently until they noticed her presence and their fighting halted.

Ethan would spend the next 2 years showing his daughter exactly what his job entailed. He wasn't the honest and ambitious business man that his family had initially been led to believe. Oh no, his true work was much darker. Much...bloodier. Of all the people Aiko knew in her life - and this still holds true today - her father's hands were stained a darker and deeper red than any. In truth, Ethan Grant was little more than a glorified gangster. Sure he was the CEO of a local stock company, but his true source of income was the homage paid by the local mobs who were terrified of the great lion Ethan was. However, his little stunt in the alley outside the restaurant had gained him a bit of infamy with the wrong sort of people, and thus the hunt for the king began.

.:|| Power is not revealed by striking hard or often, but by striking true. ||:.

War fell on Aiko's 14th birthday. It was around 7:00 pm and the three of them were gathered around the kitchen table with the adolescent girl about to blow out the candles. What really got blown out was the living room wall. She remembers screaming as she was blasted through the air, hitting hard against a wall and sliding down to the floor. Somehow she found her hands and knees though in that wild chaos she had no idea how, her head was spinning and the world was ringing around her and what noises she could distinguish were muffled and sounded...wrong in her ears. And then there were hands on her, tangled in her hair and dragging her up, up until her feet kicked in empty air and she was scratching and clawing at her captor to release her. Though her efforts were to no avail and in the end it was her father's assault that broke her free.

For hours her father and brother fought while she cowered in the corner, her life of shelter backfiring in the worst possible scenario. She was helpless, and worse than that, she was useless. All she could do was sit and tremble as she watched her family fight, sometimes as a beast using claws and fangs as their weapons, sometimes as men using guns and knives as the forces of their destruction. But no matter their form, Ai could see it was obvious they would easily overcome this small human force. Surprise might have been meant to cripple their power, but resolve to protect Aiko strengthened them more than any other form of motivation could have done.

As the battle drew to an end, it seemed as if the father-son duo would prevail. But then he appeared. Aiko remembers him as a demon dressed all in black, hair as black as night, and eyes that burned a darker red than the fiery pits of hell. There was only one word that could have described this man: Devil. For months rumors had been floating around that the infamous Devil had been hunting the lion Ethan Grant, but none of them had ever suspected how close he truly was. And none of them were prepared to see him striding into their living room as if he were the greatest thing since french toast. To this day Ai isn't quite sure what Devil honestly was, only that he was no mere Human. In her mind he was the cursed cross of Death and Sin itself, a vile monstrosity that never should have been allowed to walk the earth for as long as he had. There were no words that passed between father and son then, it was with a somber acceptance that Alexander stepped back to allow his father an honorable fight with this creature. And what a fight it was.

Neither of them held any particular form for long, darting between shapes and sizes so fast it made Aiko's head spin just to watch it. And all the while their screams and snarls echoed throughout the house, throughout her mind. Their battle lasted for hours and the sun was rising by the time either of them showed any sign of stopping. Finally though, stop they did. After delivering a mortal blow upon the Devil, the aggressor bowed out, relinquishing his claim to the Lion's life and accepting his lower ranking on the food chain. The battle was won, but the war was far from over. And help wouldn't reach them in time to save her beloved father...

.:|| Worse than death is betrayal. ||:.

Of course the fray and definitely the explosion had triggered the attention of the nearby police force, and their sirens filled the air as Aiko watched her father collapse amidst the rubble. Alexander ordered her to stay and the young girl had found some humor in that, her legs were so numb she doubted whether they would ever carry her again.

"My son.. The battle is won." Ethan's weary voice was ragged, his wounds taking their toll on his aged body. But he had still possessed the strength to smile at his son as the young man approached. Slowly, the king's expression changed from one of tired love, to mistrusting suspicion. "Alexander... There are people on their way. Take your sister away from here quickly before they can see you escape." The son had struck then, moving on his father faster than he had moved against the assailants who had threatened not only his life but that of his sister as well. "She isn't going to save you this time, Father..." Alexander's voice had been a sickened snarl and with a crunching snap as he flicked his wrist, Ethan's head jerked sideways so that empty eyes stared endlessly toward his beloved daughter. The one child who had truly loved him.

And it was then that the Lion's reign ended.

.:|| Such acute pain would demand to be felt. ||:.

Days later both Aiko and her brother would be registered with the T.A.P.T, but never again would the young shifter trust the man who had betrayed her. So it came to pass that Aiko made her way to Japan a few years later, traveling to the land her mother had been born in, and taking with her the massive wealth her father had left behind for his daughter.

The humans had declared their tragedy as a faulty gas main to the public, but she knew they were watching her, and it was because of this that she tried to be as human as possible. Ai learned to mimic her father's various masks, only allowing them to fall when she was alone. It was in Japan that she signed her record deal, her songs spreading across the nation in small bursts of animation. Her fan base perhaps never growing as large as others in her profession, but she didn't care. She didn't do it for the fame, she did it as a beacon. A dare. Trusting that one day her brother would get tired of her ostentatious life style and come say something about it. Living in the spot light, her name in the media with every new single or album was simply a means of accomplishing this. She would wait for him, every day, waiting for her chance to tell him how much she had loved him, and how much she hated him for destroying her family.
